Turtle Beach news - be always the first to know
More Canadians are now familiar with the name Barbados. Barbados was the most talked about place across Canada for a full week as Toronto-based CHUM FM, and a number of its sister stations, as well as City TV beamed breakfast programmes back to Canada from different points of this sunny destination. Additionally, more than 150 Canadians, comprising prize-trip winners, supporters and well-wishers and media professionals, also made the trip to the island and formed a lively audience for the special radio and television programmes. With three radio stations, representing different provinces of Canada, and one of the leading television stations, City TV, - these programmes provided a great deal of exposure for Barbados in the North American market. Most of the winners and supporters were linked to the promotion organised by 104.5 CHUM FM, who were also celebrating the 22nd annual Breakfast In Barbados show. Leading personalities of the popular Toronto-based CHUM FM, Roger, Rick and Marilyn - did daily broadcasts of their popular breakfast show from the Turtle Beach Resort, Christ Church, while The Bounce, from Edmonton , did live broadcasts from Mango Bay Hotel in St. James. The Ottawa affiliate, Majic 100 did their broadcasting from Almond Beach Village in St. Peter with winners and guests from Vancouver , Victoria and Halifax among their audience. City TV Breakfast Television , the number one breakfast television show in Canada, highlighted several aspects of the island's tourism product as they recorded various activities on island, including the Seafari and Safari experiences as well as a night at Bert's Bar, a haven for sports fans. ET Canada TV also captured sights and scenes of the island, and exposed their Canadian viewers to such activities as the Ocean Park marine aquarium, the Atlantis Submarine, a Mount Gay mixology segment and nightlife in St. Lawrence Gap. As part of celebrations marking the special occasion, some of Canada's leading musicians were also brought along for a special concert at the Harbour Lights nightclub. While top Canadian female artiste and pop singer, Nelly Furtado, and R&B band, the Philosopher Kings, performed last year, this year it was the turn of Grammy-nominated Canadian singer and actor Michael Buble and contemporary rock star Jan Arden. Communications Consultant with the BTA, Chay Davis said for many years CHUM (104.5) FM, Air Canada Vacations, the BTA , local hotels and other partners have worked together to make the "Breakfast In Barbados" show a success and the promotion represented only one of several efforts in the Canadian market to drive business to the destination. Davis said the broadcasts garnered millions of dollars worth of publicity for the destination and reached a combined audience of over three million. Among other intiatives in Canada are the annual "Barbados Day" at the popular Woodbine race-track in Toronto and "Barbados On the Water", a summer showcase of Barbadian culture and cuisine.
